Skiing & Snowboarding

Summary

Bowles is a stunning venue at which to learn to ski or snowboard. We have two dry ski slopes - a beginner’s nursery slope and a longer, main slope perfect to develop your skills.

In an average weekly residential trip with two or three sessions, most children have mastered the basics of skiing and can snowplough and turn, or perform a falling leaf if they are boarding, and master the longer slope.

For most children they seem to grow in confidence as they tackle each new hurdle and take pride in their achievements.

Top Tips

Be confident! The beginners who pick up skiing or boarding quickest are the ones who can stay centrally balanced or with their chin up.
Stay warm and wear thick socks and mitts/gloves
Don’t rush your learning. Some people are disappointed when their first lesson or two is about going slowly, not hurtling down in the slope in a straight line.

Thank you for a wonderful week at Bowles, I enjoyed skiing because i've never done it before and I really enjoyed going up the ski slope and then going down and then falling over all the time! Extract from a letter, Hurst Park 2010
