A team development programme was designed to tackle the most serious issues affecting this organisation. As part of the programme a two-day residential course was designed so that the team could get away from their work environment and work on their time management, project management and communication problems.
The programme included a balance of theoretical and practical training sessions
Theory focussed on personal styles, communication and feedback skills and conflict management
The practical work was completed during an inspiring team challenge event
A Bowles team challenge project offered the group an opportunity to manage resources effectively to reach a points target within a specific time frame. Using the capabilities of the team they earned points by completing various tasks. The group organised themselves into teams, prioritised and delegated tasks according to personal capability and preference. Bowles team projects are designed to develop project management skills, planning and co-ordination skills and communication skills.
This organisation was able to achieve great success during this training programme. After the residential course, staff returned to work with renewed energy and ‘stepped up’ to deliver a better service to their clients and each other. Specific improvements were identified (at the 3 month evaluation meeting) as:
Improved internal communications led to a reduction in work load
Reduced work-load resulted in less work-related stress
Increased productivity (linked to shared responsibility during key projects)
